Hello dear readers of Eurovision Ireland!
Today we continue with our a new series: One Day Love!
Each week we will celebrate one song from Eurovision History. Here, you will find facts like: year, country, artist, title of the song, lyrics (translations when the song is in another language other than English), video, points and placement in the semi-final, final or even national final (if the song only performed at that stage of the competition).
As many of you know, at the end of last week, we had the premiere of the movie ‘Eurovision Song Contest – The Story Of Fire Saga‘. In order to celebrate its success, we decided to do a special edition of our One Day Love!
Yes, a non-conventional one, but we couldn’t help it as we fell in love with ‘Húsavík’ ❤
*All the facts are fictional, as depicted in the movie!
Year: 2020
Country: Iceland
Artist: Will Ferrell, My Marianne aka Molly Sandén (Rachel McAdams)
Title: Húsavík
Lyrics + Translation:
Húsavík
All by myself
With this great big world before me
But it’s all for someone else
I’ve tried and tried again
To let you know just where my heart is
To tell the truth and not pretend
All I needed was to get away
Just to realise that I was meant to stay
Where the mountains sing through the screams of seagulls
Where the whales can live ’cause they’re gentle people
In my hometown, my hometown
Thought I made it clear, do I have to sing it?
It was always there, we just didn’t see it
All I need is you and me and my home
Vera með þér, með þér (Be with you, with you)
Í Húsavík við Skjálfanda (In Húsavík by Skjálfanda)
Í heimabærinn minn (In my hometown)
You want the world (Want the world)
All the neon lights and billboards
To be seen and to be heard (Heard)
And I followed you (Oh-ooh)
But now I know what makes me happy
And I can tell you feel it too
Where the mountains sing through the screams of seagulls
Where the whales can live ’cause they’re gentle people
In my hometown, my hometown
Where the northern lights burst out in colours
And the magic nights surpass all others
Það eina sem ég þrái er, að vera (All I long for is to be)
Vera með þér (Vera með þér), með þér (Vera með þér) (Be with you (be with you), with you, (be with you)
Í Húsavík við Skjálfanda (In Húsavík by Skjálfanda)
My home, my hometown

The best song by far in the film – if it had been at Eurovision, it would have been an easy qualification for Iceland and a possible top five in the Final, more likely to finish top ten.
I totally agree. I could see it even as a potential winner
