If you could put money on the next country of the Big Five to win, who would you pick? Germany was the last of them to win, but that was a long time ago now. But that leaves Spain, France, the UK and one other.

That other one is Italy. Year after year they’ve almost hit the mark, including last year in Tel Aviv. However, other recent years have yielded good results. In 2018 Italy’s choice was a duo, consisting of Albanian-born Ermal Meta and today’s birthday boy Fabrizio Moro (né Fabrizio Morici). There’s was an interesting take – an all-male duo with a song that had a stark message. The finishing touch was the subtitles in various languages. Could you get them all? They were the last to perform – always a tricky thing – but the televoters loved them. The jurors slightly less so. But if you want seriousness, then this song is definitely for you.
