It’s almost 2019 and what a fabulous 2018 we had!
As a gift to our readers, we present you the last interview of this year with one of Romania’s hopefuls for Eurovision, Ester Peony. She is already one of the favourites artists amongst Romanian fans from facebook groups. Let’s have a look at what she told us!
For starters, could you tell us who Ester Peony is and why the passion for music?
Hi, I’m Ester Alexandra Cretu, the girl behind Ester Peony. I am 25 years old, I love water, traveling, cats (especially my cats, Grizon and Juicy <3) and time spent in the studio. My passion for music has been born since childhood when I lived in Canada where I went to a jazz course; afterwards I continued my musical studies in Romania.
What determined you to sign up for Selectia Nationala 2019 and what is the message of your song “On a Sunday”?
I’ve been toying with the idea of participating in Eurovision, but I have not felt ready yet. I believe that experience plays a crucial role in order to be able to represent your own country in front of the whole world.
The message of the song refers to the fact that love is always a risk that you assume and becomes dangerous when you give it to the wrong person. “On A Sunday” describes the sensitive and profound suffering of separation. Somehow, you feel that love is wonderful – despite suffering after a failure in love – because feeling love it is always more beautiful than feeling nothing.
Have you figured out what kind of show do you want at SN semifinal? If so, can you reveal us parts of this secret?
Yes, I have an idea. I can’t give you details because it would not a surprise anymore, but I invite you to look carefully at the cover of the song. It may indicate some elements of the show: D
Do you have a ritual before going on stage?
I warm up my voice each time and even if I have a bad day and I go on the stage with a positive vibe. Of course nerves are there all the time, but in a constructive way.
What is your favorite song from the Eurovision repertoire?
From the first note I fell in love with Euphoria. I consider that Loreen has highlighted the energy of the song very well through her performance and attitude on the Eurovision stage. I can say that Loreen is also one of the elements behind my decision to join Selectia Nationala 2019.
Can you name two artists who inspire you?
I think that you can learn something from each artist, but within a reason of course. As an artist you do not want to be someone else. Us humans, we look similar, we have similar habits, but our feelings, emotions are totally different, and that makes us unique. I feel inspired by emotions that an artist can transmit rather than what it is seen or heard. Two of the artists who inspire me are Ariana Grande and Michael Jackson.
What would you like to say to the readers of this interview?
Hello, first of all I want to thank those who have believed in me and have supported me over time with beautiful messages, constructive comments and views on my YouTube channel. Your support is at the heart of my training as an artist and a determination to keep on making music.
I wish to all of you a 2019 full of beautiful achievements and also, with this occasion, I want to wish good luck to all competitors in Selectia Nationala 2019!
See you in the semifinals!
Thank you Ester Peony and best of luck!
