Performer of three Dutch entries in the 1970s, Sandra Reemer, has died at the age of 66. She succumbed to cancer after a long battle.
Indonesian-born Sandra’s three attempts at Eurovision were in three subtly different guises. First, she collaborated with Andries Holten in Edinburgh in 1972. Their song ‘Als het om de liefde gaat’ was performed last and finished a very creditable fourth, behind Luxembourg, the UK and Germany.
We next saw her – as plain old Sandra Reemer – on home turf in 1976, with the song ‘The party’s over now’. She managed ninth place, behind winners the Brotherhood of Man from the UK.
Her final performance as a named singer was in Jerusalem in 1979, where she had become Xandra and romped around the stage at the Binyanei Ha’ouma with her happy little band, but only managed a 12th place.
Sandra made one further appearance on stage in 1983, when she was one of Bernadette’s backing singers in Munich.
